Mass is inherent to every architecture and speaks of gravitas and permanence which we like to offer as a homely comfort. Through elongating elevations and expressing weight by levitating some of the seemingly heavy parts, we reinterpret the building mass creatively as a design tool and dynamic space maker - it becomes one of our recognizable architectural elements.
A datum, an edge introduces craftsmanship as a design element. It changes the appearance of surfaces; therefore we align and also purposefully misalign our edge and datum, countering soft corners with hard edges.
Contrast is part of our material plan and ties in mass and datum – a building can sit in contrast to a site as a result of the form. The material specificity is enhanced by the edginess and the color opposition while we also contemplate contrast as a way of creating a dynamic interior space.
